Me, me, me! Why didn’t you call ME so I could profess my love to Michael?!?! I’m so envious. As I told you before, I saw R.E.M. for the first time earlier this month as part of the Vote for Change Tour. They only played (as R.E.M.) for an hour, and I sure wanted more. Given the context of the show I think one of the highlights for me was Michael Stipe singing Because the Night backed up by Bruce Springsteen et al.
I will definitely be attending a R.E.M. show in the future.
Ahhh I am not a huge REM fan, but I love a lot of their stuff. Some of it is really brilliant. I remember when I first heard “At my most beautiful” a few years ago, and I just cried because it was lovely And so it was with so many other songs of theirs.
>>>>Michael of course had his make-up on. I don’t understand the make-up, but he has been doing it for years. I remember it on the Out of Time tour for sure.>>>
Not to be catty, doll, but after REM’s mammoth tour promoting ‘Green’ (1989), the band released both ‘Out of Time’ and ‘Automatic For The People’ without hitting the road other than the briefest and rare publicity stunts (largely in Europe). Not till the Monster tour (1994) did they properly canvas North America again. But.. maybe you were a jet-setting VIP before I knew ye?
Or.. was it ANOTHER tour..?
Now, if bleary memory serves me correct I did shimmy-shake to Stipe & Co. w/you a year ago.. then also way, way back on the ‘Up’ Tour of ‘99..
YEAH- like you didn’t already know I have a head for the trivial (& little else..).
ps: I listened to all of Kenneth on your cellphone call..!

Begin the begin is my favorite all time REM song. I’ve never had a chance to see them live, but would love to.
