the friday five

1. Who is your favorite singer/musician? Why?
ok, well this is a hard one. my favorite singer is mr. deke dickerson. yummy. he has a voice to make my heart swoon, and then this stage presence, oh my. my favorite band is rem, has been since 1986. the music is consistantly good, and i enjoy the lyrics… i even like it when i can’t understand what michael stipe is saying. my favorite musician is the rocker. go figure on that one.

2. What one singer/musician can you not stand? Why?
not really. i’m not a huge dave matthews fan. i think he is really over rated. his voice is really whiny and i don’t like the lyrics. when his songs are played on the radio, i change the station.

3. If your favorite singer wasn’t in the music business, do you think you would still like him/her as a person?
i don’t see why not… if the rocker wasn’t a musician anymore, i know i would still like him. i would like him even if he wasn’t a musician… i know that i would like the members of rem… i agree with their politics, and i would hope that stays the same.

4. Have you been to any concerts? If yes, who put on the best show?
i think deke puts on a great show, and rem is great everytime. but deke, he has this stage presence that makes my knees weak. it is incredible. he gets on stage and i’m so totally focused. it really is lovely…

5. What are your thoughts on downloading free music online vs. purchasing albums? Do you feel the RIAA is right in its pursuit to stop people from dowloading free music?
i purchase a lot of music legally. i normally only download christmas music, so i’ve laying low on the downloading. i don’t think that the christmas music i’ve downloaded is as problematic as speed downloading “bootilicious”. i think that it would be nice to have a resource that gave you as much access to different music as you get from kazaa, with the ability pay the specific artist for the track (at a very reasonable price).

i the RIAA is in their right to prosecute, but i think they need to figure out a better way to sell music. if cd’s were priced better (they really are making a killing on cd’s), people would be more willing to purchase them. also, the quality of music on some cd’s is just bad (have you listened to some of brittney’s music, it’s just bad). they should have more what’s hot now cd’s out there, at a $10 price point… they would sell, i think, and help solve the problem of downloading the really popular stuff… i don’t think there will ever be a way to stop downloading. and i don’t think suing 13 year old children is a good way to prove your point.
