Musk Ox Farm

On Monday I went to the Musk Ox Farm in Palmer. Apparently the Musk Ox had been hunted into extinction, and they brought in new Musk Oxen in the 1930’s from Greenland. The Musk Ox farm in Palmer has 150 some odd Musk Ox. It is a really nice little farm. They had babies, and some adult males that weighed over 1000 pounds.

At the Musk Ox Farm, I purchased some Qiviut. I bought 2 oz. of yarn. I know, that’s not a lot of yarn. It was so pricey. $88. But, when am I ever going to see it again? And, it is so, so soft. I took a picture of it, and I’m posting it as we speak. Qiviut is made from the hair the Musk Ox produces in the winter to keep warm.

On Monday, I also purchased 5 skeins of Alpaca that was spun here in Alaska. It’s white, and soft, and so pretty.

Yesterday, I bought 2 skeins of Bactrian Camel Hair Yarn… It was spun from Boris and Tula’s hair. They live at the Alaska Zoo in Anchorage. Isn’t that fun?

I’m not sure what we are doing today. Yesterday was museums in Anchorage. Maybe today will be the Reindeer Farm. Who knows?!? I will tell you, it is SO wonderful to be on vacation!

I’ll post the link when it’s available… Please remember, I’ve made it so you don’t have to log in, so just click on the main photo and have a party!
