Sleep is over rated, right?

There has been a cat burglar hanging around my neighbourhood for a few weeks now.  He comes in at night, through open windows, and takes small things…  Watches, wallets, you know, things that are easily taken.  Every night I go around the house and make sure that all the windows are locked, the doors are locked, and then I try to go to sleep.  I try.  Tonight I was up every hour on the hour.  Some times Sean woke me…  Some times Daisy woke me…  Then there was the dream that Perez Hilton was the cat burglar…  That woke me up too.  So here I am, blogging at 5:00 am.

Sean has decided that he doesn’t like to nap anymore.  This lack of desire to nap is making his nighttime sleeping pattern SUCK.  The two nights before this one, he was up at 11:30 pm and then again between 4:30 and 5:00 am.  Yesterday, I said to hell with this crap.  We are going to do sleep training.  I’ve read no books on sleep training.  Honestly, I’ve not read one book on parenting.  I figure that when I get confused, there will be lots of books out there that have nothing to do with what kind of kid I have that I can read and become even more confused.  So, at 9:30 am, when he just couldn’t be comforted anymore, I put him in his crib.  5 minutes later, he was asleep, and 2 hours later he woke up.  I guess I was right, he needed that nap.  Then, we had the same problem at 3:30 pm.  He just couldn’t be comforted.  So, I put him in his crib.  He played quietly for almost 20 minutes.  Then the screaming started.  I gave him 5 minutes, and then went in.  He had put his leg through the crib bars…  It hurt and he couldn’t get out.  I rocked him for 2 minutes, and off to sleep he went, again for almost 2 hours.  It is now 5:30 am and he has not been up once.  Isn’t that great!  Yeah Sean!

Now, if only I were sleeping.

  1. Friends of mine found what I believe is called something like ‘controlled crying’ quite useful. I think the idea is that you take longer and longer before you go in to comfort them and they learn to fall asleep on their own. Good luck with getting him into a better sleeping schedule!

  2. Hi Gwen….
