saturday with boo

mom and i took boo and hootie to the san jose jazz festival yesterday. hootie actually pushed the wheelchair (color me impressed)… i got to hold boos hand. that means that i got to play with boo almost the whole time. he was so bored. mom wouldn’t let him bring his gameboy. i think he was a bit upset. but, as things worked out, there were 2 young boys sitting near us. they had brought chinese checkers and sorry. boo played games with these boys for 3 hours.

it’s just amazing that kids don’t care if they know you or not… if you will play, they will play.

it got to the point that we needed a fourth player. hootie wouldn’t play, so it was up to me to find a kid. i did. i walked right up to this dad, with a very bored looking son, and said would your son like to play chinese checkers with these boys here? and low and behold they had their fourth.

it really was a wonderful afternoon. we found a shady place, put on lots of sun block, and spent the better part of the day outside. i’ve not really sat and listened to music outside in years. we saw two acts, the second much better than the first. Nestor Torres, a jazz flutist was just incredible. latin jazz that was so dancible. he brought the band together just for the show, and they called themselves the bay area latin all stars. and they were just wonderful. the only thing that would have made it better would have been a visit to the big band stage. i think the kids would have liked it, but it was quite a trek for boo to undertake. so, we decided not to. oh well, i’m not sunburned, i got to hold boos hand and talk to hootie. couldn’t ask for a better day.
