fire & ice

last night my boss gave me a ticket for the annual hospitality management fundraiser, fire & ice. it was held at the convention center downtown san jose.

apparently this is a big deal event, where all the hospitality management majors run a “coctail” hour. actually it was from 6 to 11, but they had appetizers and tons of desserts.

normally, i hate going to these things alone. what am i saying i hate going to this kind of thing alone. i’m not much of a social butterfly, and normally i just sit in a corner and people watch. actually, normally i would bow out because i didn’t have a date. the thought of being in a room full of people i don’t know doesn’t really have much appeal to me. even with all the food and drink i can consume.

believe it or not, i went. i wished that i had a date. based on the amount of free beer that was served, i knew that if the rocker had joined me, he would have had a great time. this was one of those occations where i really did wish that i drank.

the first and best booth that i ate at was teske’s germania. they served this buffalo stew that was to die for. i think i may have had buffalo once before. ONCE. this was incredible. it melted in my mouth, it wasn’t tough, and it had this flavor that was simular to a good filet mignon. by this time, i was thinking oh, the rocker would really like this place. then, the thought came over me… too bad we aren’t having date night anymore. then, i got sad.

so, i ate dessert. lots of dessert. german chocolate cake, brownies, home made truffles, chocolate dipped strawberries, any sweet i could get my hands on. it didn’t really help, but it was really good.

i hung around for just over an hour. the band was playing 80’s songs, so i listened for a while. then i decided to go home and walk daisy. all in all, i had a good time. it could have been a ton worse, they could have not served dessert.
