LOAD 514 – Day One, the year of seans penny

scrapbook layout depicting a 1907 pennyAnd, so it is May 2014.  It’s been a while since I’ve blogged, but as Vivian says, I’ve got it all set up, and lots of new work…  Why not start back up again.

This is the perfect time to do it.  LOAD 514 started today!  Woot!  John loves LOAD, and I must say, I do too.  It’s a great way to get layouts done in a non-stressful way.  There is a prompt every day, and you just go from there.

Today the prompt was “in the news.”  It was not an easy one.  I only know of a few times my family has been in the paper, and honestly, I wasn’t looking to go find the articles and then print out appropriate photos to go with…  So, I thought about this 1907 penny that Sean purchased over the weekend, and how we really haven’t taken the opportunity to use the penny as a history lesson.  The year this penny was made, Teddy Roosevelt was president, Oklahoma became a state, the plague broke out in San Francisco…  So many learning opportunities!  So why not tell the story of how we came to have it!

I used some of my favorite letters from Jillibean Soup & Prima, a folder from Heidi Swapp, and some pop dots. I found a picture of a 1907 penny (our penny is sealed, and didn’t photograph well) on Google, and printed a page from the Los Angeles Herald.  It’s super simple, but packs a creative punch!  Oh yes, my favorite white pen is dying a slow an painful death.  Time for a new one…  Do you have one you like?  A good one is so hard to find.

Until tomorrow!

    • I like the Uni-ball Signo. Mine is almost dead, and it’s my second. I have purchased at Scrapbook Island in the past, but they didn’t have them in stock the last time I was in.
