Niko’s Red Scarfs!

I really felt like I needed a “project” to get back into my knitting.  Something really easy, that would go quickly, and honestly, something that I wouldn’t keep.  When I got the email from Knitting Arts about Niko’s Red Scarf project, I knew I had a winner.

In the last 3 weeks I’ve knitted 3 scarves for the program.  One “nice” one, knitted in Cascade Quatro, one knitted in Lion Brand Homespun, and finally one knitted in Red Heart.  All three of them are interesting, and I think the foster children who get them should be happy.  One of the reasons why I used the “cheaper” yarns is that the organization requested “machine washable” scarfs.  My favorite fiber, wool, is hard for that, unless you buy superwash.  I didn’t feel like it.  I really hate knitting with cotton, so that left acrylic.  It really wasn’t that bad.  I’m teaching John to knit with Lion Brand Jiffy.  I think he has 6 rows done.  Quite funny really.  He started with 30 stiches, I’ve got him back to 30 stitches on each row…  He has 32 stitches again.  I’m not fixing it.  He is on his own…  Time to figure out how to fix things.

So, here are my scarfs…  Modeled by John.

This is the Quatro… k2tog, knit to last stitch, knit in front and back of last stitch, on all odd rows.

This is the Red Heart…  Broken Rib, odd number of stitches, each row k2, p2, k1

This is the HomeSpun…  Simple Garter Stitch, knit all rows

Doesn’t John look totally wasted in the first picture?  Hee Hee.
