Another weekend, another haul!

This weekend was the deco show. Normally I forget about the deco show, and remember the week after it happens. This year, I didn’t forget, and I got Miz K to go with me. Miz K works down the hall from me. I was surprised she wanted to go, but I’m always up for company.

I really was on a mission for things for the house. I wanted to find some cool artwork for the living room. I also needed some knick-knacks. I have this built-in book case that needs to be filled. When we finally got up there, lots of cool things had sold signs on them. A pair of Heywood Wakefield occational chairs, that were the wrong color, a really interesting bright blue lamps, and other assorted pieces. I saw lots of interesting art, most of which were over $5,000. I’m not spending that kind of cash.

Then, I saw this:

I instantly fell in love. Why? I have no idea. It’s really weird how things hit you upside the head. These fish hit me hard. I talked to the vendor about them. Then I thought about them. Then I walked away from them. Then I called my mom, asked her if she thought I should buy them. Then I took a picture with them on my cell phone and sent it to her. (The vendor said that he didn’t care if I took a picture, but other vendors might and I should be careful… I hadn’t even thought to ask, I was so excited.) Mom then called back and said “Go for it!” So, I bought the fish.

Then, the strangest thing happened. I didn’t see anything else I wanted to buy. Seriously, Miz K saw lots of things. She bought a Varga print of a red head, a brown tweed fedora, and this weird lamp that required assembly. I kept looking around, looking for something that caught my eye. Nothing caught my eye. It was such a let down. I think I almost was distraught about it. Then I thought, maybe the fish are too strong, and I am going to need other fish in the room.

So, I did what every self respecting woman does when she is confused. I ate some chocolate.

It was then we hit the fashion section. Miz K is a vintage size 10 with a 24″ waist. Isn’t that disgusting? It makes me feel fat, that’s for sure. I saw a little navy blue box purse that I questioned about. It seemed pricey, so I left it. At this point, Miz K bought a true red satin dress. It looked like it had been made for her. She was lovely in it.

Then, I finally bought something else. I bought a little wicker purse. I don’t think it’s vintage, I’m pretty sure it’s new, but it’s really cute. Then I paid a little too much for this pink box purse. But, it was too cute to leave behind. Fyi… The purses are about the same size. The wicker one looks much bigger than it really is…

Oh yeah, the final purchase for me… A pair of vintage frames that are being made into sunglasses for me, almost as we speak. smile When they get here, I’ll ask Miz K to take a picture of me in them. I tried really hard to get geeky glasses, but she was really against it. I bet Snidget would have let me get the really geeky ones… You know, the 1950’s safety frames. You know what I’m talking about.

Anyway, the next show is the first weekend in December. I can’t wait. I’m going to find some more things that I just can’t live without, I’m sure of it.

  1. I’m an enabler!  What can I say…

I dig that basket type purse you got.  That reminds me of one that my grandmother had.  I love it.
