Let me just say that I’ve never really felt this lost while I was trying to work in a very long time. Saturday, we had our design team crop over at the store, and I thought, I’d make Christmas cards. I brought all my Christmas stuff. I made a great big mess. I couldn’t make a card. 5 hours at the store, and I didn’t come out with one card. Nothing. I was so frustrated.
So I came home, and I pulled out a photograph. I remembered that I’d been wanting to try a technique that had lots of “flags” underneath a photograph. I don’t remember where I saw it. I think it was a Scrapbook Trends magazine. I pulled out the scraps from my Little Yellow Bicycle Splash line… And out popped this.
I loved the word “summer” that came with the embellishment pack. I put it down, and the color just wasn’t right. So, I used my Jenni Bowlin paint dauber and painted it blue. Nope. Blue was not the color. Then I used my Tim Holtz whitewash stain over the blue. Nope, that didn’t do it either. So I went back to my Jenni Bowlin paint daubers and used my malt ball. Wow, not it looks like the Summer is burned into the grass, which I love. You can see it, but it doesn’t distract from the LO.
I decided to outline the photo in white pen. I thought it needed to stand out just a little bit more. That’s when I realized that the photo was placed crookedly. I couldn’t figure out why everything seemed just a bit off kilter. Yeah, an 1/8th of an inch off. But, I love it. I really do. I love the flags, I love the kite, I love the little quote. I love that it’s not perfect, and that it is still me.
great job, gwen! i love the flags and especially the orange paired with blue!
