venus, goddess of love

The planet Venus passes across the front of the sun as viewed from Mount White, about 50 km (32 miles) north of Sydney, June 8, 2004you know, i just love this space stuff. this is an incredible sight. the exploratorium has an awesome webast about the event. they sent their scientists over to greece to follow the transit. the webcast includes a brief introduction of greece, how they photographed the event in 1882, and then the history of the transit of venus.

  1. It was really odd to watch this little disk move across the sun (I used a welder’s mask and got some real strange looks staring skywards wearing it and a suit). Not quite as good as the total eclipse a couple of years ago which was really freaky, but cool nonetheless.
