random memories of my vacation

so, i’ve got some random memories i thought i might share from my trip:

  • a homeless girl sitting on the corner near the gaslight district (painting her fingernails of all things to do on a corner) yelled at us for not giving her money. she said that we had no compassion because she was pregnant and it wasn’t her fault and it was our responsibility to take care of her. yeah, ok. let’s go with that.
  • mom lost her credit card sunday night. spent monday morning trying to take care of the problem, and then the credit card company decided NOT to send a replacement card without letting us know. don’t worry mom will get her chase points. she is going to take them down.
  • i met a woman from oakland, ca in the victoria yarn store. we both purchased canadian yarn, and shop in the same yarn stores here. weird.
  • i stole a small container of strawberry jam from high tea at the empress. i know, it was wrong, but it was so good.
  • i also stole all the toiletries from the mariott… including the coffee that i don’t drink… i brought it to work as a present.
  • i shopped at my first lush store in victoria. i bought candy fluff while my mom watched the victoria bike police pull people over and give them tickets. she saw 7 people get ticketed while i was in there.
  • mom and i played 6 hands of go fish on the bc ferry on the way back from victoria. (we played go fish because it was the only card game we both could remember how to play.) i lost all six games, and claimed that she cheated the entire time. well, she did.
  • up on grouse mountain, we watched the birds in motion demonstration, and a hawk got a bit unruly and dive bombed my head. damn blond hair.
  • we got to have dinner early on grouse mountain, and got the best table in the house. i took pictures of our food. we were the ultimate tourists surrounded by couples trying to have a romatntic evening. ha! no romance for anyone if i don’t have any!
  • the taxi driver that saved us from the weird guy on sunday night was the same guy who saved us from the bus that never came on thursday night (we waited for 45 minutes). he remembered us. we didn’t remember him. (he ended up taking us to the airport on sunday morning when we left.
  • everytime we talked to another hotel patron about the hotel, they told us how horrible it was. you know, they claimed to have a swimming pool. it did, it was empty with wet paint in it. we left with a full page list of what was wrong with our room.
  • i was tempted to purchase a $90 cdn umbrella, just because it was pink.
  • by the time we left vancouver, i could read the bus map, and could use a transfer ticket. and yes, people were asking me how to get places. what? i look like i live in vancouver?

Comments

  1. I once stole a small handtowel from the bathroom at the Mandarin in Hong Kong. How embrassing.

  2. Dang. You steal a lot. I have a CD of Jane’s Addiction “Been Caught Stealing” I should rip and mail to you… Oops. That would be stealing wouldn’t it?

RIAA rhymes with gay-ay-ay-ay, you know. Enjoy the jam. But why is there only one cabbie in BC? Questions to ponder.
